The head of the FAA airline executives that if they won't willingly reduce flight schedules at Chicago's congested O'Hare International Airport, the government will do it for them.

"We cannot let schedules at O'Hare hold the whole system hostage," FAA Administrator Marion Blakey told the executives. "You can't control the weather, but you can control your schedule.""

A small private plane crashed into a luxury home on The Hills Drive, killing all six people on board.

The accident happened during takeoff from the Lakeway Airpark, about 17 miles west of downtown Austin. The two-story residence caught fire during the accident near The Hills of Lakeway golf course."

A computer glitch was blamed for the nationwide grounding of American Airlines and US Airways on Sunday morning, causing delays that were expected to last all day.

US Airways' flight-operation database malfunctioned due to "an internal technology problem," spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said. A similar problem affected American Airlines' flight plan system, grounding about 150 flights, spokesman John Hotard said."

Anonymous writes "Cessna announced that the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, will soon offer a factory-installed, all-glass cockpit. Beginning in early 2005, Cessna will debut the Garmin G1000 fully-integrated avionics system on 172 Skyhawks.

Cessna will initially focus on offering two versions of the Skyhawk G1000 avionics package: 172R Skyhawk GA and 172S Skyhawk SP with NAV III. The 172R Skyhawk GA is designed to address the operational requirements of the flight training market, as well as for those wanting the latest in glass cockpit technology and safety without the need for an autopilot or FIS XM/weather datalink. The 172S Skyhawk SP NAV III option incorporates nearly all of the same features as the NAV III G1000-equipped Skylanes and Stationairs, which were introduced with resounding success in late 2003."

Rescue teams in Papua New Guinea (PNG) today recovered the body of an Australian pilot killed when his aircraft crashed in rugged mountain terrain on Thursday.

Sources in the PNG aviation industry said the pilot was highly competent with 10 years' experience flying in PNG."

Pilot Garry Megson and his son Peter, eight, were killed along with family friend Stephen Aspden and his son Jack, 12, at New Garden Airport on Sunday."

Safety officials are stepping up pressure on the FAA to require video cameras in cockpits so accident investigators will have better information on what causes plane crashes.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) launched a two-day hearing today to renew its call for large and small planes to be equipped with crash-resistant cockpit image recorders."

Charles W. Sweeney, a retired Air Force general who piloted the plane that dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki in the final days of World War II, has died at age 84.

Sweeney died Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospi tal in Boston, US, hospital spokeswoman Christine Johanson said. She did not disclose the cause of death.

Sweeney was 25 when he piloted the B-29 bomber that attacked Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945, 3 days after the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and 6 days before Japan surrendered."

A balloon ride turned into a scary ordeal for 20 people Saturday when the aircraft got stuck high above the city, then was tossed around by high wind for an 1.5 hours before rescuers brought it down.

4 people suffered minor injuries in the mishap, which authorities said occurred when wind from an approaching storm caused a winch to fail as it retracted a cable attached to the balloon."

India's armed forces lost 21 aircraft in crashes since April last year, and 26 people, including 13 civilians, were killed in these accidents.

A majority of the crashes, 11 crashes, involved Russian made MiG-series aircraft and a total of 22 civilians were also injured in crashes that occurred in residential areas."

Steve Cunningham, 41, from Banbury, Oxfordshire, will fly a light aircraft to a number of cities from Belfast to Glasgow as part of his five-day challenge. He has spent the past 3 years learning to fly using "talking software"."

AN RAF Top Gun pilot was facing the high jump last night for flying so low he hit a lamppost. The ace clipped the airbase light at 54ft with a wing tip on his Jaguar attack jet while doing 600mph.

He wrestled control of the crippled single-seater and headed straight out to sea from the coastal base in Cyprus."

Boeing received a contract from the U.S. Marine Corps to provide two ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicle “mobile deployment units” for use with the First Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) in Iraq. ScanEagle is a low-cost, long-endurance fully autonomous UAV developed and built by Boeing and The Insitu Group.

Each ScanEagle mobile deployment unit will consist of several UAVs as well as the computers, communication links and ground equipment necessary to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) support for I MEF during operational missions."
