Air Tahiti to introduce long-haul services to New York

Anonymous writes " Air Tahiti Nui is planning to operate 12.5-hour non-stop New York-Papeete flights every Monday, Thursday and Saturday starting in June 2005, an airline official announced in Los Angeles.
The airline also plans to operate two weekly non-stop Sydney-Papeete flights starting in June 2005, but the schedule has not yet been announced.
June is the starting date for both new services because that is when Air Tahiti Nui is scheduled to take delivery of its fifth Airbus A340-300 aircraft, which will be named “Nuku Hiva” after the main island in the Marquesas Islands. The plane will have the same seating capacity and arrangement as the four other aircraft—six first class seats, 24 business class seats and 264 economy class seats.
Both new flights are expected to play a key role in helping the French Polynesia government reach its 2007 goal of 300,000 yearly tourists.
Air Tahiti Nui presently serves Los Angeles with 13 weekly return flights, Paris with five return weekly flights, Auckland with three return weekly flights, Narita, Japan, with three return weekly flights and Osaka with one weekly return flight. "
