Aviation students get big debt but find a job
Anonymous writes " Aviation students are being sold "hollow promises", many racking up tens of thousands of dollars in student loans without ever finding jobs as pilots, aviation operators say.
Helicopter students in particular had some of the biggest individual student loans - one Southland pilot owed $170,000 - but few operators were willing to take them on because of their lack of experience."

New C-1A World speed record
Anonymous writes " Robert "Hoot" Gibson established a new (unofficial) speed record in class C-1a (661-1,102 pounds) when he flew his 100-hp, 845-pound Cassutt racer an average speed of 238.14 mph in a 100 km closed-circuit course on April 28. That breaks the 20-year-old mark of 229.41 mph flown on July 31, 1984, by James Miller in the Miller GEM 260. Gibson beat the standing mark by well over 1%, the margin required by the National Aeronautic Association for new speed records.
Gibson, a retired astronaut and decorated naval pilot, flew a 104.17 km course from his hometown Murfreesboro (Tennessee) Airport to the McMinnville Airport and back. Speed was calculated using a straight-line distance between those two airports."

Around the World in an Autogyro
Anonymous writes "
Yes finally we have a date to go, 21st April 2004 departing from Middle Wallop home of the Army Air Corps.
Splitting that down further, some of you will remember that the plan has been to fly around the world in a Magni M16 2000; we needed Section T approval as this would be the first M16 2000 into the UK. This has been progressing but slower than we had anticipated. With the weather window closing and no chance of putting the flight off until the appropriate approvals had been gained for the aircraft, I was faced with the very real possibility of the project collapsing!"
